HAPPY NEW YEAR

WE ARE NOW TAKING ORDERS FOR 2012; DELIVERY WILL IN SEPTEMBER.

Welcome to our 2012 website. We hope that you enjoy browsing through it and that you find it easy to use. At the moment we have not got images of every variety, but we are still adding to them. All feedback is very helpful as we aim to provide a top quality service.

We have a number of exciting new introductions this year. Two of our own 'Firefighter' (3Y-O) and 'Forged Gold' (2Y-Y) and nine varieties from Brian Duncan including the lovely 'Queen Fiona' (1W-Y) and the almost red 'Contralto' (2W-P), and another from Manuel Lima 'Lima's Green Goddess' (8G-G) although there is a very limited stock of it. We have a new cultivar from Derrick Turbitt 'Causeway Gem' (6Y-Y) and from a new breeder to us, Maurice Kerr, also from Northern Ireland, 'Downfield' (4Y-O). We are pleased to be able to release a miniature by Kate Reade which we have named 'Kate' (1W-W).

2011 was a very successful seaon. With the warm spring weather the flowers all looked wonderful even though they were over before the last show. We did well with many best division awards, several best in show and the Silver Gilt Simmon's Medal for highest number of points in the RHS Daffodil Show and the RHS Late Show.

The growing conditions in 2011 were unusual. After a long hard winter the season began with a welcome spell of warm and dry weather which brought on the flowers very quickly although this did not seem to affect the quality. May, June and July were quite dry giving very good conditions for harvesting. The quality of the bulbs was excellent. One of the wettest Octobers on record meant that we had to plant whenever we could. However, in spite of that we managed to have all the bulbs in the ground by the end of the first week of November.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT US:-

We are a small family run bulb business situated on the shores of Strangford Lough on the east coast of Northern Ireland. We have been growing and exhibiting daffodils for many years. We also have our own hybridising programme, which is progressing well. As our own stocks multiply we will be able to offer more of our own varieties in the future. We sell bulbs from daffodil breeders across the world including some from the Southern Hemisphere. Also some outstanding varieties from top amateur breeders. Having taken over Ballydorn Bulb Farm and Brian Duncan Daffodils, we have many of their varieties including new Brian Duncan and other breeders' introductions each year.

All the varieties offered are grown at Ringhaddy and are regularly inspected by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) plant health inspectors and samples of soil and bulbs are tested in their laboratories for pests and diseases. We export widely around the world and, when required, all our daffodil bulbs are dispatched with phytosanitary certificates issued by DARD. Our EC Quality Passport Number is UK/NI. 3909.Our bulbs are dispatched from September to October unless specifically requested otherwise.
