Welcome to our 2016 website. We hope you enjoy looking through it and that you find it easy to use. Currently we have images of most of our varieties, but will continue to add those that are missing.
We have six new introductions this year. (Click on "New Daffodils" and choose "2016" to see them all) and we also have six varieties that, although not new introductions, are new to Ringhaddy Daffodils.
Five new varieties of our own breeding; 'Clear Morning' (2W-Y), 'Fiery Ring' (3Y-YYO), 'Marine Corps' (2W-YYO), 'Music Maker' (2Y-Y) and 'Regal Glow' (1Y-Y).
- An intermediate seedling from Derrick Turbitt (Northern Ireland), 'Causeway Julie' (3Y-YYR)
- We have three of John Hunter's breeding from New Zealand: 'Silver Monarch' (2W-W), 'Spring Lustre' (3W-YYO) and 'Topaz Dawn' (3W-Y)).
- From Ron Scamp (England) 'Littlefield' (7O-GOO).
- Another variety from Noel Burr (England), 'Dunstan's Fire' (1Y-O) that won the RHS Ralph B White Award in 2004 and an old variety 'Pepys' (6W-Y) Bred by P.D. Williams (England) prior to 1927.
In 2015 the spring was slightly early for us and in spite of some hail showers and damp conditions the blooms were good. However, for the harvest, conditions were perfect. We had a little rain before we started, which softened the ground and then it was dry and sunny for the whole time we were digging. The bulbs were clean and easy to handle. Planting was quicker than usual as we have cut back on a number of the older varieties. However, the seedlings took a little longer, not helped by the rain which started when we were about half way through planting them. From then on we have had the wettest winter on record. Fortunately, although the field has been very wet, we have not had any flooding.
Once again we would like to thank our loyal customers for their continued support. We very much enjoyed meeting many of you during 2015, in Ireland, the rest of the UK and also the USA. Nial spent an enjoyable few days at the ADS Convention in Williamsburg, Virginia. He looks forward to seeing many of the world's daffodil enthusiasts, in the USA, at the World Daffodil Convention in St. Louis, Missouri this April.
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to anyone who would like to visit the field during the flowering season.
Best wishes to you all for a happy and successful growing season in 2016.
